Graduated, random width slate roof and slate cladding for New Jersey residence

This large residence, nestled in the trees of Saddle River, New Jersey, showcases a newly-installed graduated, random width slate roof. Greenstone Slate® supplied 67.56 squares of natural Vermont slate in a blend of grays, greens, and purples to complement the home’s exterior color scheme. Slate was also used as siding on the multiple dormers. Further, the slate cladding along with the copper accents add an old-world style and sophistication to this newer-style home.

Slate tiles were provided in a variety of lengths and widths for this project (20 x random width, 18 x random width, 16 x random width and 14 x random width). This variable slate pattern creates added architectural detail to the traditionally-installed slate roof. The Architectural Grade slate, which ranged in thickness from 3/8″ to 1/2″, provides many benefits including a Class 4 hail resistance rating and textural detail for aesthetic appeal.
