Vermont Gray/Black slate wall cladding installation at Valparaiso University

The architects for the Kathleen and Mark Helge Center at Valparaiso University designed the one-story building to include natural building materials which included Greenstone Vermont Gray/Black slate for the wall cladding in prominent areas of the new Campus Ministries building’s exterior.

Greenstone Slate® provided slate in widths of 20″x12″ and 20″x14″ for the slate cladding installation. The slate grade ranged from 1/4″ to 3/8″ (Standard Grade Rough Texture) which works particularly well for slate wall cladding projects.

Contractor: Midland Engineering

Slate is efficient to install as cladding and adds a very distinctive style and texture to a building’s appearance as an accent or entire wall areas. When beneficial, slate cladding can be installed in a grid system that offers the advantages of air circulation behind the cladding and unsurpassed ease of building access behind the slate for service and renovation.
